Waterfront Retaining Walls in Greater Houston & Lake Conroe

A retaining wall holds back soil, stabilizes slopes, and protects waterfront property from erosion and washout. Jordan Marine Construction designs and builds engineered retaining walls along lakes, bayous, and the coast across Greater Houston, Lake Conroe, Lake Livingston, and the Texas Gulf Coast.

We engineer each wall for the soil it must retain and the water it must resist, using steel, vinyl, treated timber, or segmental systems as the site demands. The result is a wall that holds grade, drains properly, and protects your shoreline for the long term.

Our Waterfront Retaining Walls Process

  1. 1

    Site & Soil Assessment

We evaluate slope, soil type, retained height, drainage, and water exposure to engineer the correct wall.

  2. 2

    Engineered Design & Permitting

We specify wall type, embedment, tie-backs, and drainage, and coordinate any required permits.

  3. 3

    Construction

We build the wall with proper footings or driven sheeting, structural reinforcement, and engineered drainage.

  4. 4

    Backfill & Restoration

We backfill, compact, and restore grade and landscaping behind the finished wall.

Materials & Engineering

Retaining walls are built in steel, vinyl, or treated timber with tie-back anchors and engineered drainage to relieve hydrostatic pressure — the main cause of wall failure. Timber is treated for its environment and hardware is hot-dip galvanized or composite for corrosion resistance.

Waterfront Retaining Walls FAQs

What is the difference between a retaining wall and a bulkhead?

A bulkhead specifically holds the shoreline at the water's edge; a retaining wall holds back soil and stabilizes slopes, which may be at the water or set back from it. We build both and will recommend the right structure for your situation.

Why do retaining walls fail?

Most failures come from poor drainage and built-up water pressure behind the wall, or inadequate tie-backs. We engineer drainage and anchoring correctly so the wall lasts.
